Beijing Olympics organizers were wrong to have Lin Miaoke lip-sync the opening ceremony

Lin Miaoke was lip-syncing to the voice of another 7 year old girl. Her name was Yang Peiyi. Why do you ask? Because she was deemed not cute enough. Chen Qigang, the ceremony's musical director, stated “The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feeling and expression. ... Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects." This does not sit well with me. Anyone else feel the same? This is the Olympics, not a beauty pageant.

You just ruined my day. I thought this adorable little girl was actually singing. I agree. Unless the other girl was horribly ugly, (image does count for something in this stage) I would have preferred to see the real deal. Actually, if she was deformed or had some other abnormality, it would have been cute and inspirational.

Man, I'm disgusted. Tell you the truth, even though I thought the show the Chinese put on was beautiful I would rather see a lesser show put on by a government I admired more. The Chinese human rights record together with stories of deception and abuse of the rights even of young athletes does not inspire me or get me too psyched. This episode with the little girl is the last straw. Yikes, how despicable can you be?

I didn't watch it, but typically would rather see the person singing rather than someone who looks prettier by some standards I disagree with. But it certainly points out a difference in cultures.
